Labuan Remembrance Day, observed annually in November, is a solemn event that honors the sacrifices of Allied soldiers during World War II. Held at the Labuan War Memorial Park, the largest Commonwealth burial ground in Malaysia, the ceremony pays tribute to over 3,900 soldiers from Australia, the United Kingdom, and other nations who lost their lives in the Borneo campaign. The day is marked by wreath-laying, prayers, and moments of silence, bringing together dignitaries, veterans, and locals in a poignant display of respect and remembrance.
This day holds special significance for Labuan, an island that played a key role during the war as a strategic military base. Beyond the historical significance, Labuan Remembrance Day is also a reminder of the importance of peace and the sacrifices made to secure it, fostering a sense of unity and reflection among those who attend.
For this year, the Remembrance Day will be held on 10 November 2024 at Labuan War Memorial, Jalan Tanjung Batu.
